May 2021 Relic Hunt

Public beaches in the Hampton Roads areas are usually where our our club gets together to do some metal detecting as a group. The sand is easy to dig, some can go out in the water if the surf allows and others are content to roam the beaches in search of a good find. Rarely are we afforded an opportunity to get together and do a relic hunt. To dig in the hard dirt for perhaps something a bit older, to challenge our skills with our detectors and digging tools and maybe hit the woohoo find of the year.

On May 15th 2021 we were given that chance with a generous land owner in Dendron, VA on an old farm out in the country to do some relic hunting. Many in our club have not been able to relic hunt in many years so it was great to finally get that chance and brush off our digging knives and small shovels to find some relics. You could not have wished for better weather with mild 70 temperatures, plenty of sunshine, and virtually no humidity.

The pictures below are some that I was able to take of this beautiful 16 acre property and the few members that were able to make it out. We are hoping to get another chance to return to this property in the Fall when the weather gets cooler.

Also pictured below are some of the items found on the property. Such a wide range of old and new and this and that type of items. The entire group had a great time and were grateful for the opportunity. Can't wait until the Fall.
